PREGNANCY & NEW MUMS

Lighten the load of pregnancy and motherhood

Pregnancy, and becoming a mother, is a unique and powerful experience. The journey will bring you more joy than you’ve ever known. But it can also bring new demands, which take their toll on your physical, mental and emotional health.

We’re here to help. With relaxing, effective and specialised osteopathy, we’ll soothe any pain and discomfort, and empower you on your motherhood journey.

Huge physical, hormonal and emotional changes take place during pregnancy. The body has to adapt to carrying up to 20lb of baby, waters, and placenta. That’s no mean feat!

If you’re feeling the strain of pregnancy on your body and mind, osteopathic treatment could be the key to a more comfortable pregnancy - and a more natural unassisted birth.

We can help with:

  • Aches and pains (as the body changes shape to accommodate the increasing size and weight of the uterus)

  • Lower back and sacro-illiac pain (the most common reason pregnancy women come to see us)

  • Symphysis pubis dysfunction (by gently improving the mechanics of the lower back and pelvis)

  • Debilitating physical strains caused by vomiting (by restoring ease and balance in the body’s soft tissues)

  • Heartburn, breathing difficulties, varicose veins and haemorrhoids

  • Aligning your pelvis, uterus and baby to help achieve optimal fetal position for the birth journey

  • Empowering you mentally for a natural, unassisted birth.

NEW MUM

As incredible as becoming a mother can be, there’s a lot going on physically, mentally and emotionally. Your body is not only recovering from the changes it made during pregnancy but also from the effects of delivery. This, plus the emotionally and physically demanding job of caring for a new baby, is a heavy load.

Lighten the load with calming, effective osteopathy. We can help:

  • Restore and balance the pelvis and uterus to release the strain patterns and any trauma held in the body post-birth (vaginal or caesarean).

  • Ease aches and pains in the back, neck, shoulder, arms, hip, and pelvis.

  • Calm the nervous system (which left untreated can contribute to postnatal depression).

  • Prevent ongoing back problems, period problems, stress incontinence, constipation, headaches and prolapse (which can occur if childbirth stresses are not treated).

  • With any ACC injuries.

  • By offering advice for breastfeeding and post-natal exercises.

TREATMENT

Our compassionate, knowledgable osteopaths will:

  • Sit down and talk through your current presenting problem and past medical history to gain a clear picture of your health and wellbeing.

  • Carry out a physical examination of your spine including orthopedic and neurological testing if necessary.

  • Use hands-on treatments which could include structural, cranial, and biodynamic osteopathy.

  • Explain clearly what is going on in your body and put together a wellbeing plan.

  • Happily create a support team around you to nurture your journey to health. We work alongside an incredible referral network with the medical community and liaise regularly with consultants, GPs, midwives and other therapists.

Feel your best during pregnancy and post-birth with calming, effective osteopathy for your body and mind.
